In January 2013, the Spanish gynecologist Dr Arjona and his team at the Hospital Reina Sofia in Cordoba were awarded the prize for the "Best Medical Idea 2012". The professional journal "Diario Médico" acknowledged Dr Arjona's contribution to the treatment of myomas with HOLA®, a new method by biolitec®.

HOLA® (Hysteroscopic Outpatient Laser Applications) is a new minimally invasive technique for removing myomas. Fibroids are commonly occurring benign tumors of the uterus that affect approximately every fourth to sixth woman of childbearing age in Europe. Even if fibroids do not cause any symptoms in some cases, heavy bleeding, pain, adverse effects on organ function and other symptoms can occur. Until now, myomas have usually been removed using surgical or radiological procedures.

Hospital Reina Sofia is the first hospital to use the pioneering laser technology. So far, over forty women have already benefited from the advantages of the method. The patient does not have to undergo conventional surgery and as the treatment can be carried out as an outpatient procedure, no hospital stay is necessary, and the patient can quickly resume her day-to-day activities.
